WHAT IS BIOTHANE®?

BioThane® is a durable, waterproof, vegan alternative to traditional leather. It has a soft, flexible feel similar to broken-in leather, making it comfortable for everyday wear while standing up to all of your dog's adventures!

Unlike traditional leather or fabric, BioThane® doesn't absorb water, dirt, or odours, making it incredibly easy to clean and maintain. Whether your dog loves swimming, hiking, rolling in mud, or simply exploring, BioThane® is designed to keep up!

With proper care, your BioThane® gear can last for years, making it a practical and long-lasting choice for collars, leashes, and accessories.

WHAT HARDWARE OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

We offer a variety of hardware options so you can customize your gear to suit your dog's style!

Stainless Steel (Silver): Durable, corrosion-resistant hardware that's an excellent choice for everyday adventures and frequent exposure to water.

Solid Brass (Gold): Naturally rust-resistant and incredibly durable. Brass may develop a natural patina or tarnish over time, which can be polished if desired. May discolour light dogs from tarnish.

Black (Gunmetal-Coated Solid Brass): Solid brass hardware with a dark gunmetal finish. The coating is scratch-resistant, but cosmetic wear may develop with regular use.

Rose Gold (Plated Steel): A beautiful decorative finish that may gradually scratch, chip, or fade with use. If the plating wears away, the exposed steel may be susceptible to rust. May discolour light dogs from tarnish.

Nickel-Plated Steel: Used on select hardware components, including certain quick-release buckles. The plating may wear or chip over time, potentially exposing the steel underneath to moisture and rust. May discolour light dogs from tarnish.

Hardware Care: All hardware experiences natural wear over time. To keep your gear looking its best, we recommend rinsing away dirt and thoroughly drying hardware after exposure to water, especially saltwater.

Please note that cosmetic wear, including scratching, chipping, fading, and tarnishing, is considered normal use and is not covered under our hardware warranty.

One of the best things about BioThane® is how easy it is to clean and maintain! Whether your dog loves muddy trails, swimming, or everyday adventures, a little care goes a long way in keeping your gear looking its best.

Cleaning Your BioThane®: Simply wipe down your gear with warm water and mild dish soap. For stubborn dirt or buildup, use a soft cloth or toothbrush to gently scrub the surface. For tougher marks, a small amount of rubbing alcohol may help, but always test it on an inconspicuous area first.

Caring for Your Hardware: Although BioThane® is waterproof, not all hardware finishes are equally resistant to moisture. We recommend thoroughly drying all metal components after getting wet, especially after swimming or exposure to saltwater. This helps prevent rust, tarnishing, and premature wear.

Preventing Stains & Discolouration: While BioThane® is highly stain-resistant, it is not completely stain-proof. Certain substances, including ink, dyes, adhesives, skunk spray, and harsh chemicals, may cause permanent staining or discolouration. Avoid prolonged contact with these substances whenever possible.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use bleach, abrasive cleaners, or harsh chemicals on your gear, as these may damage the BioThane® coating or hardware finishes.

Regular Inspections: Before each use, check your gear for signs of damage, including cracks, cuts, loose rivets, worn hardware, or compromised stitching. Discontinue use if any component appears damaged.

A Little Wear Is Normal! With regular use, hardware may develop scratches, fading, chipping, or tarnishing. Solid brass may naturally develop a patina over time, and some tarnish may transfer onto lighter-coloured BioThane® or fur.

Every Top Dog Gear order is handcrafted with care, and we begin preparing your custom gear as soon as possible! We understand that mistakes happen or plans change, so please review our policies below.

Order Changes: Need to update a colour, size, hardware option, or another detail? Please contact us within 24 hours of placing your order. We'll do our best to accommodate your request, but changes cannot be guaranteed once production has begun.

Order Cancellations: Orders may be cancelled within 15 minutes of purchase without any cancellation fees. After this window, a 10% cancellation fee will apply to cover payment processing, administrative costs, and order preparation.

Once production has begun, cancellations may no longer be possible, as our products are handmade specifically for your order.

How to Request a Change or Cancellation: Please email us at contact@topdoggear.ca as soon as possible with your order number and the details of your request.

We want you and your pup to love your Top Dog Gear! Since our products are handcrafted with care, we ask that you review our return and exchange policy before placing your order.

Returns & Exchanges: We accept eligible returns and exchanges within 14 days of delivery or pickup. Items must be unused, unworn, and in their original condition. All approved returns are subject to a 20% restocking fee.

Non-Returnable Items: Personalized or customized products, including items with nameplates, are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged. Gift cards are also non-refundable.

Return Shipping: Customers are responsible for all return and exchange shipping costs. If return shipping charges are incurred by Top Dog Gear, these costs will be deducted from your refund. Original shipping charges are non-refundable, except where required by law.

Exchanges: Need a different size, colour, or style? Contact us within 14 days of receiving your order. Exchanges are subject to product eligibility and availability, and any applicable price differences or shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.

Damaged or Incorrect Items: If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us as soon as possible with your order number and photos so we can make things right. These issues will be handled separately from standard change-of-mind returns, in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws.

How to Start a Return or Exchange: Please email contact@topdoggear.ca with your order number and the reason for your request. All returns must be approved before being shipped back to us.
